ALWAGHT- The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations reiterated Tehran’s firm denunciation of Israel’s US-backed assault, highlighting that the 12-day war flagrantly breached international law and the UN Charter.
Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, condemned Israel’s June 13, 2025, coordinated attacks on Iranian residential areas, civilian infrastructure, and nuclear facilities, which killed 1,100 civilians—including women and children—and injured over 5,700. He described these strikes, supported by the US and some Western countries, as blatant violations of international law, the UN Charter, and humanitarian conventions, further compounded by subsequent US military actions on June 22.
Iravani emphasized that targeting civilians, hospitals, energy sites, and peaceful nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards constitutes war crimes, crimes of aggression, and crimes against humanity. He called on the UN Security Council to take urgent action to hold Israel accountable and prevent further destabilization, while criticizing Western powers for their double standards in failing to stop Israeli aggression across the region, including in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
Following the Israeli attacks, Iran launched a retaliatory campaign, Operation True Promise III, targeting key Israeli military and infrastructure sites. The conflict escalated when the US joined the war by striking Iranian nuclear sites, prompting Iran to retaliate against a US base in Qatar. The violence ended with Israel’s unilateral ceasefire declaration on June 24, announced by US President Donald Trump.
