ALWAGHT- Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Saeid Iravani, has vehemently denounced Israel’s ongoing “aggressive actions” against Iran, emphasizing that Iran’s response has remained “defensive and limited in scope.”
Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Saeid Iravani, told the UN that Iran has never initiated hostilities and is not the aggressor in the current conflict. He asserted that Israel’s actions, supported by the United States, are a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law, particularly as they have targeted Iranian territory, civilian infrastructure, and peaceful nuclear facilities under UN oversight.
Iravani emphasized that Iran’s response has been proportionate and strictly defensive, carried out under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and only targeted the sources of aggression. He warned against the normalization of the concept of “preemptive self-defense” as cited by some Israeli officials, arguing that it is legally unfounded and undermines the prohibition on the use of force, a core principle of the UN Charter.
He also condemned the double standards of Western powers, especially the US, UK, and France, for not stopping Israeli aggression in Iran and across the region. Iravani warned that if the UN Security Council fails to act decisively, Iran will continue to defend its sovereignty and people, insisting that this is both its right and responsibility.
