The Death Toll from Israel’s Renewed Assault on Gaza Climbs To 970

ALWAGHT- Gaza’s health ministry reports that Israel’s renewed assault has resulted in the deaths of at least 970 people within 48 hours.

A renewed wave of deadly airstrikes in Gaza shattered a fragile ceasefire on Tuesday, leading to at least 970 deaths within 48 hours, according to the health ministry. Before the offensive resumed, the death toll from Israel’s 15-month war stood at 48,577 as of midday on March 17. By midday Wednesday, that number had risen to 49,547.

The ministry also reported that an Israeli attack hit a UN facility in Deir el-Balah, resulting in the death of a foreign UN staff member and severe injuries to five others. Israel denied targeting the UN building, but the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) confirmed that an explosive ordnance struck the facility. UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva condemned the attack, calling it a violation of international law.

Meanwhile, Bulgaria’s foreign ministry confirmed that one of its citizens working for the UN was among the victims. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, facing accusations of war crimes and ethnic cleansing, declared on Tuesday that the ongoing massacre of civilians in Gaza was "only the beginning."
