ALWAGHT- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said two supertankers transporting over 4.5 million barrels of crude oil were put out of action after striking sea mines while trying to navigate an unauthorized passage south of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement released late Friday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) reported that both tankers hit sea mines earlier that day, causing blasts and severe fires in their engine compartments.
The explosions rendered the vessels inoperable, preventing them from moving from the location, the statement said.
The IRGC added that the damaged tankers were left abandoned off the southern coast of the Strait of Hormuz after their crews evacuated the ships.
