Iran Has Not Been Contacted by the US

ALWAGHT- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran has not yet received any communication from Washington.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed that Tehran has not received any messages from the US, in response to questions about potential communication. His statement came amidst ongoing tensions regarding the possibility of negotiations with the United States. While there has been no direct contact, Iran remains cautious about re-engaging with the US given the history of broken agreements.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a recent interview with Sky News, echoed Pezeshkian’s sentiment, expressing that Iran would need more than just words from the US to consider negotiations. He noted that the situation had become more complicated since the last attempt at diplomacy and emphasized that actions, rather than rhetoric, were needed to restore trust. Despite the US signaling a willingness to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran remains skeptical due to past experiences, particularly after former President Trump’s withdrawal from the agreement.

The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which involved Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, was meant to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. While President Biden has indicated a desire to return to the deal, negotiations to salvage the JCPOA have been stalled since August 2021 due to disagreements over the removal of sanctions. Iran insists on receiving guarantees that the US will uphold any future agreement, particularly after the Trump administration’s actions, before considering any new deal.
