Alwaght- Clashes in eastern Syria between tribal fighters and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reportedly have left several people dead and others wounded.
The cashes broke after the SDF detained and dismissed commander of Deir ez-Zor Military Council from his position, local reports said.
Heavy clashes were reported in Hawaij, Dhiban, Al-Kasra, Mohaymidah, Al-Shahil and several other areas in the east.
Local sources said that the SDF retreated from some of their positions in Al-Sha’fa, Gharanij, Al-Hassan, and Al-Busayra areas for fear of being targeted by the armed tribal fighters.
Tribal forces announce their control over the town of Hajin in the eastern countryside Deir ez-Zor, after expelling SDF militants, sources said.
“Fighting began at dawn. [It involved] Syrian tribesmen, most of whom had taken part in the Syrian revolution and who are now dissatisfied with the SDF rule in Deir ez-Zor,” local media activist Ramadan Suleiman told Al Jazeera on Friday.
The SDF, better known as the US infantry in Syria, control Kurdish-held areas in Syria’s northeast that include Deir ez-Zor and parts of Aleppo.
Popular resistance to the Americans and their proxies are rising in Syria as the latter plunder the country’s oil and seek to disrupt Syrian return to security and calm.
