Alwaght- Turkey votes on Sunday as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan faces the biggest political challenge of his two-decade rule.
Erdogan's main opponent is CHP leader Kemal Kılıcdaroglu, who heads an alliance of six opposition parties, is having a slight lead in opinion polls, however if either of them fail to get more than 50% of the vote there will be a runoff election on May 28.
It is the first time that Turkey’s factious opposition has coalesced around a single candidate.
Turkey, a NATO-member country of 85 million, has taken unpredictable turns in its foreign policy under Erdogan and the Sunday vote will be very decisive for the future of the country.
Erdogan has accused US President Joe Biden of trying to topple him, saying the result of Sunday's crucial election will be a response to him too.
He made the remarks in his last election rallies in Istanbul on Saturday.
Turkish voters will also elect a new parliament in a tight race between the People's Alliance comprising Erdogan's conservative AK Party (AKP) and the nationalist MHP and others, and Kilicdaroglu's Nation Alliance.
