We Not Crazy to Accept US as Peace Mediator: Palestinian President

President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas

President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas rebuked the US decision’s to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as capital of Israeli regime, saying he would no longer accept Washington as a mediator.

Alwaght- President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas rebuked the US decision's to recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as capital of Israeli regime, saying he would no longer accept Washington as a mediator.

In some of his sharpest rhetoric, Mahmoud Abbas, whom many Palestinians criticize for compromises he made on their rights with Israeli regime, said in public comments to senior Palestinian officials that even a crazy person would not accept such a role for the US after Trump's provocative move.

“I think you agree with me, if you don’t object, you agree with me that we will not accept any more for the US to be a partner or a mediator in the peace process. A crazy person wouldn’t accept this,” Abbas said on Monday.

Israeli regime lays claim to the entire city as its “capital,” while Palestinians maintain that the flashpoint city is the undisputed capital of a future independent Palestinian state.

Trump's al-Quds move that was a dramatic shift in Washington’s policy triggered massive protests not only in Muslim countries but also drew oppositions from Washington's closet allies, including the EU.

The US was even further isolated on Monday after its decision to veto a United Nations Security Council call for maintaining al-Quds city's status que.

Fourteen members of the 15-member council, even France and Britain, voted in favor of the Egyptian-drafted resolution, which expressed "deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of al-Quds."

The draft also affirmed "that any decisions and actions which purport to have altered the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of al-Quds have no legal effect, are null and void and must be rescinded in compliance with relevant resolutions of the Security Council."

Trump's administration, however, vetoed the pro-Palestinian resolution with Washington envoy to UN calling it "an insult" that won't be forgotten.
