Police Evacuate, Cordon off Part of London over Suspicious Package

Police Evacuate, Cordon off Part of London over Suspicious Package

Alwaght- British Police have evacuated part of the City of London amid a security alert over a "suspicious package".

Armed officers and explosives teams with sniffer dogs were seen patrolling in the Liverpool Street and Moorgate areas, Independent reported.

Witnesses said trains were running as normal but roads near the stations were closed.

Liverpool Street was cordoned off by police after a security alert on 20 September.

Footage emerged showing officers patrolling with guns, mounted police and sniffer dogs in the road outside his offices.

"We are being asked not to leave the building," Alex Holms, founder of the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors group on Twitter. "The road in front of us is closed leaving to Liverpool Street."

City of London Police said officers had been deployed to Wilson Street "following a report of a suspicious package in the area".

A spokesperson added: "This was first reported to us at 9.52am on Wednesday and we are currently investigating.

"Cordons have been put in place at the junctions of Moorgate and South Place, Eldon Street and Blomfield Street, and Wilson Street and South Street.

"We would advise members of the public to avoid the area."

The operation came as British security services remain on high alert following an attempted bombing on a London Tube train last week that injured 30 people.

The national terror threat level was raised to "critical" after the blast, which injured 30 people, but has since returned to "severe", meaning further attacks are considered highly likely
