Extremist Zionist settlers Wednesday desecrated Ibrahimi Mosque in the southern occupied West Bank under protection of Israeli regime troops.

Alwaght- Zionist settlers Wednesday desecrated Ibrahimi Mosque in the southern occupied West Bank under protection of Israeli regime troops.

Witnesses said dozens of extremist settlers residing in illegal outposts in al-Khalil (Hebron) and Beit Lahm (Bethlehem) flocked to the yard of the Ibrahimi School, near the Ibrahimi Mosque, and raised the flag of the usurper Israeli regime before they headed to Mosque's yards and performed provocative rituals.

Sacrilegious dances were performed and racist slogans yelled by the Israeli settlers near Joseph’s Tomb.

The Zionist settlers and forces further prevented Palestinian civilians from reaching their homes in the area.

This comes after last month, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, approved a Palestine-proposed resolution, declaring the Old City of al-Khalil a protected heritage site in a secret ballot despite Israeli attempts to thwart the vote.

The vote irked the regime in Tel Aviv, which had reportedly been involved in a campaign to thwart the UNESCO vote.

The Old City of al-Khalil is home to the Ibrahimi Mosque, one of the key holy sites in the Muslim world.

According to Palestine’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the old city of al-Khalil urgently needed protection from “assaults that harm the exceptional international value of the place.”
