ALWAGHT- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has advocated restructuring the international governance system, arguing that effective multilateral cooperation requires equal treatment of all nations and respect for the principle of equality before international law.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for stronger multilateralism and meaningful reform of global governance, warning that unilateral policies, coercive measures and political use of financial and technological tools are undermining the international system.
He argued that international institutions must uphold the rights of all countries equally, regardless of their size or power. Pezeshkian criticized double standards in applying international law and said Iran’s experience of military attacks and the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon demonstrate the need for effective reforms.
Pezeshkian outlined four priorities: defending sovereignty and international law, reforming institutions such as the UN Security Council and global financial bodies, expanding trade through national currencies and independent financial mechanisms, and opposing unilateral sanctions. He also urged BRICS members to deepen cooperation in technology, energy and food security and to condemn attacks on civilian infrastructure, including peaceful nuclear facilities.
The president called on BRICS to play a greater role in supporting Palestinian rights, resisting external pressure and improving coordination, including through the creation of a permanent secretariat. He said Iran was ready to help build an international order based on law rather than power politics, dialogue rather than conflict, and cooperation rather than sanctions.
