ALWAGHT- Iran states that US and European claims regarding the revival of Security Council resolutions impose no obligation on UN members to observe the previously terminated measures.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry rejected US and European claims that previously annulled UN Security Council resolutions and sanctions against Iran have been reinstated. Tehran said any action inconsistent with Resolution 2231, which endorsed the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), carries no legal weight for UN member states.
Iran emphasized that the so-called “snapback” invoked by the US, UK, France, and Germany has no legitimacy, stressing that the terminated resolutions impose no obligations. The ministry accused Washington and its allies of misusing dispute resolution mechanisms under the JCPOA and acting under political pressure rather than upholding their own commitments.
Tehran also condemned the European trio for backing US and Israeli actions, including an attack in June on Iran’s nuclear facilities. It vowed to pursue legal action against those responsible and seek compensation for damages caused by what it described as unlawful aggression.
The ministry concluded that instead of fostering diplomacy, the US and Europe have chosen confrontation by trying to revive annulled sanctions. It said Iran will firmly safeguard its rights and respond decisively to any hostile measures taken against the country.
