Alwaght- The newly elected Lebanese president says he will embark on a fight against corruption in the country.
Michel Aoun said his efforts will be to “eradicate” all forms of corruption and violation of national law in Lebanon.
Aoun was elected as Lebanese president on 31 Octo
ber after 29-months of political stalemate when different parties in the country failed to agree on a president. Hezbollah resistance movement accused Saudi Arabia for preventing such agreement and finally managed to attract the positive opinion of all other parties on its nomination of Aoun for the presidency.
Addressing huge crowds who gathered at the Baadba Palace to congratulate him on his election, Aoun said a strong Lebanon is built on a constitution which all politicians shall respect, “we won’t allow anyone to violate the Lebanese constitution.”
“Today, we can stand proudly and defiantly before all people and countries because we have created our national unity and we will now begin the second journey, which is building the country,” the president said.
On the reform plan, Aoun pledged that huge projects were awaiting the government. “People want their basic needs to be secured (water, electricity, infrastructure, etc.),” he said, adding “that’s why we have reached the presidency carrying developmental projects.”
