Alwaght- A earthquake measuring 7.1 magnitude has struck central Italy on Sunday, the US Geological Survey said.
The USGS said the quake was centered 68 kilometers east of Perugia. It was 108 kilometers deep.
Initial reports on the magnitude of the tremors are different. While USGS and Italian media talk of a 7.1 earthquake, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said the tremor was magnitude 6.5 or 6.6.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) later estimated the quake as magnitude 6.1.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck east of the city on Wednesday whose tremors were felt as far away as the capital Rome.
The quakes came two months after almost 300 people were killed in the region by a quake that levelled several small towns.
