Alwaght- Anisa Ahmed Makhlouf, the mother of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has passed away at the age of 86.
The news of her death was announced on Saturday evening and the country’s presidential office confirmed her death by publishing a statement and thanking people for their condolences.
Makhlouf, the wife of late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, was born in 1930 in the port city of Lattakia. Her family were wealthy and followers of Alawite branch of Islam.
She was mother of four boys and a girl, Bashar(the president), Bassel, Majed, Maher and Bushra. She gave birth to the current president of Syria in September 1965.
