Global Support for a War Crime

Thursday 24 July 2014
Global Support for a War Crime

Alwaght-The death toll in Gaza topped 700 on Thursday as Israeli regime has launched savage airstrikes on civilians of Gaza Strip for three weeks. The indiscriminate bombardment of Zionists in Gaza has also left almost 5000 injured. It is unclear how many of the dead were civilians. The United Nations estimates that more than 70% were.

"There seems to be a strong possibility that international humanitarian law has been violated, in a manner that could amount to war crimes," U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay said Wednesday. He went on saying "This entails applying the principles of distinction between civilians & combatants and between civilian objects & military objectives; proportionality; and precautions in attack. Respect for the right to life of civilians, including children, should be a foremost consideration. Not abiding by these principles may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity."

However, despite the aforementioned notes by U.N. High Commissioner, Secretory-General of U.N. Ban Ki-Moon has acknowledged, Israeli regime's right to defend itself! It seems that he has also accepted Netanyahu's ridiculous assertions that many of the deaths are due to people choosing to be part of human shields. Zionists have accused Hamas for "putting missile batteries next to hospitals, next to mosques, next to schools" in order to justify the genocide they are committing in Gaza.

Western officials, particularly Americans, as always, have supported Israeli regime's war crime without any hesitation. Closing eye to the slaughter of thousands of innocent Gazans, western officials, despite their countries public opinions, express their respects for the Israeli regime to defend its country. For instance, the UN Human Rights Council has voted to launch an independent inquiry into Israel's offensive in Gaza, Israel continued its bombardment of the Gaza Strip in its operation against Hamas. The 47-member council adopted the investigation under a draft resolution after a request by Palestine, which America voted against it and 17 countries, mostly EU states, abstained.

In addition to U.N. as well as western governments, Arab states monarchs of Persian Gulf are also supporting Israeli regime for its war crime in Gaza by keeping silence and remaining deaf to oppressed Palestinians' call for help. Indeed, not only Arab officials have stayed silent against Zionists' war crime, but also, reportedly, they have green lighted Israeli regime to continue its attack on Gaza until the elimination of Hamas.

Considering all aforementioned facts, one may conclude that there is no hope for a serious action by international powers or organizations to rescue Gazans, because they only take measures, whenever their national interest is at risk. Therefore, Palestinians should only rely on themselves and the noble people around the world who always seek truth and justice wherever it is.
