ALWAGHT- Six fatalities reported in RSF attacks as Sudan faces a deadly cholera epidemic and deepening humanitarian emergency.
Six people were killed and others injured after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled two hospitals and residential areas in El Obeid, North Kordofan, according to a Sudanese military source. Al-Daman Hospital, one of the facilities hit, suspended operations indefinitely as doctors continue to battle a rapidly spreading cholera outbreak in Khartoum amid severe supply shortages and a collapsing health sector.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the attacks on medical facilities and called for immediate protection of healthcare infrastructure and workers. Aid groups like Doctors Without Borders and the International Rescue Committee warned of an escalating public health crisis as cholera spreads and UN food program facilities suffer damage from RSF shelling.
The conflict between Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, ongoing since April 2023, has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions. The fighting has divided Sudan, with the military controlling central and northern regions while RSF dominates Darfur and parts of the south, including contested areas in South Kordofan where allied rebel factions are also active.
