ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi heads to Moscow: Deepening bilateral ties and pursuing close consultations with Russian counterparts on key regional and international matters.
In his recent visit to Russia, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed regional and international issues with Russian counterparts following a gap in meetings due to US-Israeli aggression against the country. The purpose of these consultations was to deepen bilateral relations and review the latest developments in ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States.
During his trips to Pakistan and Oman, Araghchi highlighted the importance of consulting with these countries as a mediator in Iran-US negotiations and a coastal state sharing the Strait of Hormuz, respectively. The foreign minister emphasized that consultations were crucial to secure the rights of the Iranian people and protect the country's interests.
A temporary ceasefire brokered by Pakistan took effect on April 8, but negotiations ended without an agreement due to unreasonable positions from the United States. Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz for commercial traffic following the announcement of a ceasefire by US President Donald Trump on April 7. However, the waterway was closed again after Trump announced that the US would continue its blockade against Iran.
The foreign minister's discussions with senior Omani officials focused on securing common interests and coordinating any actions related to safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. It was agreed during the visit that consultations would continue at the expert level between Iran and Oman, both being coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz.
