Iran’s UN Envoy Warns US Strike Endangers Nuclear Safety

ALWAGHT- Iran’s envoy to the UN demanded an explicit condemnation from the Security Council and the UN secretary-general over the US missile strike on the IAEA-supervised Darkhovin nuclear power plant.

Iran's UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani told the UN secretary-general and Security Council that US forces launched a missile strike on the IAEA-safeguarded Darkhovin nuclear power plant construction site in Khuzestan province early Sunday. He stressed that the facility is used exclusively for peaceful purposes and operates under Iran's Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) commitments.

Iravani said the strike marked the 18th attack on Iran's IAEA-monitored nuclear facilities since the start of the joint US-Israeli military campaign in June 2025. He argued that the attack violated international law, the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions, and the IAEA Statute, blaming the Security Council's inaction for enabling such strikes.

Iran called on the Security Council to reaffirm that attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities are illegal, demand an immediate end to US attacks and threats against Iran, and hold Washington accountable under international law for the consequences of its actions.
