Trump’s Policies Risk Drawing US Into Venezuela, Says Senior Senator

ALWAGHT- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says Trump is pushing the United States toward a potential “foreign war” with Venezuela.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has sharply criticized President Trump for escalating tensions with Venezuela, warning that his actions are pushing the United States “closer and closer to another costly foreign war” without congressional approval. Schumer emphasized that only Congress has the constitutional authority to declare war.

Schumer condemned Trump’s recent statements and military posture toward Venezuela, calling them reckless and contrary to an “America First” policy. He stressed that Americans are weary of endless foreign wars that cost lives and resources.

The Democratic senator urged bipartisan action in Congress to reclaim the power to authorize military force, framing Trump’s approach as a threat to constitutional norms. His remarks came after Trump suggested closing Venezuelan airspace, intercepting drug traffickers, and leaving open the possibility of a military invasion.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth defended recent lethal strikes against alleged drug traffickers in Latin American waters, describing them as legitimate actions targeting narco-terrorists. Reports indicate growing concern among US allies over Washington’s militarization in the region, alongside a significant naval buildup near Venezuela and Colombia.
