On Sunday morning, Yemen’s Armed Forces launched a missile strike targeting Ben Gurion Airport, prompting a halt in air traffic and setting off sirens near occupied al-Quds. Israeli media confirmed flight delays and airborne reroutes, while the Israeli military claimed its air defense systems attempted to intercept the ballistic missile. Yemen's military stated it used a hypersonic missile to strike Lod Airport (Ben Gurion), declaring the operation a success that forced settlers into shelters and disrupted airport operations.
Yemen’s Armed Forces announced an ongoing air blockade on Lod Airport, citing widespread airline compliance and significant impacts on Israeli air traffic. The statement linked the operation to Israel’s continued military actions in Gaza, asserting that the daily massacres against Palestinians were driving Yemen to escalate its military response. Since Israel resumed its Gaza offensive on March 18, Yemen has launched dozens of missiles and drones in retaliation.
The latest attack marks the fifth strike in a week and part of a broader campaign Yemen began in November 2023, following Israel’s war on Gaza. Although Yemen briefly paused its operations during a ceasefire, Israeli violations led to their resumption. These attacks have severely disrupted international travel and commerce, with numerous global airlines suspending flights to and from Israel in response to the ongoing threat.
