ALWAGHT- China’s main proposals for the resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue have been released as an official document by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.
The Chinese delegation to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva requested that China’s proposals for resolving the Iranian nuclear issue be published as an official UN document. The proposals, unveiled by Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a trilateral meeting with Russia and Iran in Beijing on March 14, 2025, were officially published on March 21, 2025.
The proposals stress several key points: first, the commitment to peaceful settlement through diplomatic means, opposing the use of force and illegal sanctions. Second, balancing the goals of nuclear nonproliferation with Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy use, while encouraging Iran to continue its commitment to not developing nuclear weapons. Third, reaffirming the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the basis for a new consensus and urging the US to return to negotiations.
Further, China advocates for promoting cooperation through dialogue and opposing hasty UN Security Council intervention. The proposals also highlight the importance of a step-by-step, reciprocal approach to negotiations, with mutual respect being central to resolving the issue. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a party to the JCPOA, China remains committed to facilitating dialogue and actively promoting peace talks.
