ALWAGHT- Major General Ahmad Vahidi, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), praised Iranian athletes for their strong showing at the 20th Asian Games in Japan, describing their achievements as a source of national pride and a setback for Iran’s adversaries.
Iranian athletes won 19 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze medals at the 20th Asian Games in Japan. IRGC Commander Major General Ahmad Vahidi praised the results as a testament to the determination, courage and self-confidence of the Iranian people, while also highlighting the strong performance of Iranian women and girls.
Vahidi said the achievements were particularly significant amid what he described as an “American-Zionist imposed war”, adding that the results demonstrated Iran’s resilience under pressure and brought frustration to its adversaries. Iran’s delegation was named the “Minab Angels” in tribute to victims of a deadly attack on an elementary school in Minab.
In a separate message, Vahidi congratulated Iran’s national astronomy and astrophysics team after it won the IOAA 2026 world championship for the third consecutive year in Hanoi, securing five gold medals. He said the achievement underscored the talent and perseverance of Iranian youth and the country’s continued scientific progress.
