ALWAGHT- The Iranian foreign minister and Afghanistan's acting defense minister collaborated on plans to enhance security along their shared border and combat terrorism.
During a meeting in Kabul on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Afghanistan’s acting Defense Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid discussed bilateral relations, with a focus on defense and security cooperation.
Araghchi emphasized the interconnected nature of both nations' security and urged enhanced collaboration between their authorities to ensure stability along the shared border. Highlighting mutual challenges such as drug trafficking, terrorism, and unauthorized border crossings, he called for closer coordination to address these issues effectively.
The Taliban official expressed gratitude for Iran’s positive approach, particularly its longstanding hospitality toward millions of Afghan refugees over the past 46 years. He praised the strong ties between the two countries and reaffirmed the interim Afghan government’s commitment to combating insecurity and terrorism. He also stressed the importance of information-sharing and coordination to tackle these threats more effectively.
