Iran Calls for Lasting Ceasefire in Gaza

ALWAGHT- Iran's ambassador to the United Nations called for the ceasefire in Gaza to be converted into a permanent and lasting solution, emphasizing the necessity of a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian territory.

In his address to the UN Security Council, Saeed Iravani, Iran’s ambassador to the UN, commended the Palestinian people and their supporters for achieving the Gaza ceasefire agreement, describing it as a testament to their resilience amidst immense suffering. He criticized the international community and the Security Council for their inaction and moral failings in addressing the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Iravani highlighted the devastating impact of the Israeli blockade, which has left over two million people struggling for basic necessities while facing the destruction of homes, hospitals, and critical infrastructure.

Iravani called for the ceasefire to be transformed into a lasting solution through the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, unimpeded humanitarian aid, and a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza. He emphasized the need for safeguarding UNRWA’s mandate and funding to support Palestinian refugees and addressing escalating violence in the West Bank. He condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, labeling them as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and stressed the importance of accountability to ensure justice and prevent further atrocities.

Additionally, Iravani urged Israel to honor its ceasefire commitments with Lebanon, halt violations of Lebanese sovereignty, and withdraw from southern Lebanon. He also condemned Israel’s occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights as a violation of international law. Reaffirming Iran’s support for Palestinian resistance as a legitimate response to Israeli occupation and aggression, Iravani called on the Security Council to adopt a firm and objective stance to address these ongoing issues.
