The Syrian Opposition is Arranging a Power Transfer to a Transitional Government

The Syrian Opposition is Arranging a Power Transfer to a Transitional Government

ALWAGHT- On Sunday, the Syrian opposition coalition announced ongoing efforts to transfer power to a "transitional governing body with full executive powers." In a statement, it declared, "The great Syrian revolution has shifted from overthrowing the Assad regime to building a Syria that honors the sacrifices of its people." The coalition also urged Kurdish forces to sever ties with foreign organizations.

Shortly after, Reuters reported that opposition fighters had launched attacks on Kurdish forces in Manbij, northern Syria. The coalition reiterated its commitment to finalizing the power transfer and emphasized the revolution's transition to a nation-building phase. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali confirmed that decisions regarding Russia's military presence would fall under the new government, signaling the start of a "pluralistic era."

Al-Jalali expressed readiness to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the Syrian people and to facilitate a peaceful transition while ensuring public institutions remain operational. He urged all factions to act rationally and offered cooperation to opposition members, emphasizing his commitment to stability during the transition.

These developments followed reports of militants entering Damascus and President Bashar al-Assad fleeing to an undisclosed location. Earlier, the Syrian Arab Army withdrew from Homs and other western cities with minimal clashes, as militants led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Turkish-backed groups advanced since November 27, capturing Aleppo, Hama, and Homs before reaching Damascus.
