ALWAGHT- The Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement has confirmed the assassination of its Secretary General, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, during large-scale Israeli airstrikes on residential buildings in southern Beirut on Friday.
Hezbollah confirmed the martyrdom of its leader, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, on Saturday, following Israeli airstrikes in southern Beirut. In their statement, Hezbollah described Nasrallah as a wise and courageous leader who has now joined the ranks of the respected martyrs of Karbala. They pledged to continue their fight against Israel, defending Lebanon, supporting Gaza and Palestine, and honoring Nasrallah’s legacy of sacrifice.
Since Friday, Israeli airstrikes have targeted residential areas in southern Beirut, including Burj al-Barajneh, Kafaat, Choueifat, and other neighborhoods. The attacks have caused extensive destruction, with local media reporting over 300 casualties. Footage aired on al-Manar TV shows scenes of devastation, with collapsed buildings and streets filled with debris, while Martyrs' Square is crowded with displaced families.
The recent escalation is part of a broader Israeli offensive that has intensified over the past week, resulting in more than 700 deaths across Lebanon since Monday. The violence has caused widespread fear and anxiety among the population as airstrikes continue to target densely populated areas.
This assault follows a previous Israeli attack that killed 38 people, including women, children, and a senior Hezbollah commander, Ibrahim Aqil, in a southern suburb of Beirut. These back-to-back strikes have heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, with the group vowing to retaliate and continue its resistance efforts.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei condemned the Israeli attacks, calling on Muslims worldwide to unite in support of Hezbollah and Lebanon. He criticized Israel's leadership as shortsighted and incapable of inflicting serious damage on Hezbollah, asserting that resistance forces across the region stand with Lebanon. Khamenei expressed confidence that Lebanon would once again overcome Israel's aggression, as it has done in the past.
