Alwaght- In a letter to the United Nations and Security Council following an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian Embassy's consular section in Damascus on Monday afternoon, Iran's deputy envoy to the UN Zahra Ershadi has called for an emergency meeting to condemn the "terrorist action" by the Israeli regime.
The envoy described the Israeli attack that assassinated several IRGC generals and officers inside the diplomatic building a violation of the international laws.
The occupying regime of Israel has launched a heinous and hateful terrorist attack against the diplomatic facilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Syrian Arab Republic. On the afternoon of April 1, 2024, at 4:45 p.m., the diplomatic buildings of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus were targeted by Israeli air and missile attacks from the occupied Golan Heights. This terrorist attack led to the tragic martyrdom of at least five Iranian personnel, including senior military advisers, and the complete destruction of Iran's diplomatic building," part of the letter read.
The letter added:" These horrific crimes and cowardly terrorist attacks are a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, international law and the fundamental principle of the immunity of diplomatic and consular posts (as explicitly stated in the 1961 Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Persons under International support is one of the diplomatic factors mentioned in 1973). These horrible crimes are also a threat to the peace and security of the region."
Given the massive international consequences of such horrific crimes that can include regional tensions, she said, Iran clls for the UN Security Council to condemn the attack in the strongest terms.
"In addition, the Islamic Republic of Iran urges the Security Council to take any necessary measures, including holding an emergency meeting to deal with this gross violation and to prevent future aggressive actions that endanger the security and safety of diplomatic missions, and also make sure to bring justice to justice the hands responsible for this criminal action," the latter read.
The letter at the end warned that the Israeli regime bears responsiblity for all the consequences of of such a terrorist action. It added:" The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the legitimate right in accordance with the international laws to give a resolute response to such terrorist actions."
