US Vetoes UN Security Council Call for Ceasefire in Israeli Regime’s War on Gaza

Alwaght- The US Vice President Kamala Harris has called for an "immediate ceasefire" and said that there is no excuse for the Israeli regime to deny food to the starving civilians in Gaza.

"Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire for at least the next six weeks, which is what is currently on the table,” Harris said on Sunday.

The vice president added that Israeli government should do more to allow the delivery of aids to the besieged enclave.

"People in Gaza are starving. The conditions are inhumane and our common humanity compels us to act,” Harris said during a speech to mark the violent suppression of civil rights protesters by police in Selma, Alabama on March 7, 1965.

"The Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid. No Excuses," Aljazeera cited her as saying.

Harris also pointed to the Thursday Israeli killing of Palestinians gathering to get food from an aid convoy which left 100 civilians dead. She described the shooting" horrific tragedy."

The US is calling for Israeli ceasefire while it three times vetoed resolutions drafted by various states at the UN Security Council calling for truce.

The last was a resolution drafted by Algeria on February 24. Washington argued that ceasefire will ease pressures on Hamas while talks are ongoing with the resistance group over a deal to secure release of Israeli prisoners in return for cessation of fire and delivery of food.

The US not just helps Israeli diplomatically, but also American munition shipments are reportedly arrive at Israel on a near-daily basis.

On February 16, Reuters reported the Biden administration was sending send bombs and other weapons to Israel that would add to its military arsenal even as the US pushes for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Wall Street Journal reported the proposed arms delivery includes MK-82 bombs and KMU-572 Joint Direct Attack Munitions that add precision guidance to bombs, and FMU-139 bomb fuses. The value is estimated to be "tens of millions of dollars", according to WSJ.

Add to this the funding of Israeli war by the Americans. On February 12, the US Senate gave final approval to a $95bn wartime aid package for Ukraine, Israel and other American allies, include Taiwan.
