Hamas Delegation Meets Deputy Russian FM

Saturday 2 March 2024
Hamas Delegation Meets Deputy Russian FM

Alwaght- A delegation of Hamas members has met Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow on Friday night, a statement by Russian foreign ministry said.

Bogdanov met Mousa Abu Marzook, a senior member of Hamas, and others members of the Palestinian resistance movement.

The Palestinian delegation thanked Moscow for supporting the Palestinian nation and provided a report on the latest Palestinian developments and the positive results coming out of efforts to unify the national Palestinian stance, according to statement.

The statement also updated the Russian deputy FM about the latest developments of war with Israel and the barbarous Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.

They insisted that defense will go on until liberation of Palestine.

This is the second time since October 7 war that a Hamas delegation is visiting Moscow.

The talks of October visit focused on expanding the bilateral relations and a deal that would see release of Israeli prisoners in exchange for a cessation of Israeli genocidal war.

The visit came as Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on October 17 that Israel should not launch a ground invasion of Gaza.

In a statement, Hamas representatives said they had told Bogdanov that they “highly valued Putin’s position and the efforts of Russian diplomacy” in the conflict, Russian state media reported.

Russia has been moving closer to Hamas as its relation to Israel and West deteriorated over Ukraine war.

Israeli government openly supported Kiev against Moscow and even reportedly sent air defenses to Ukraine through a deal struck with Germany. There have also been reports of Israeli mercenaries fighting alongside the Ukrainian forces.

The deal enraged Moscow that condemned the move and vowed to press Tel Aviv elsewhere.

The area where it can press Israeli government appears to be the Gaza war.

There have been Western rumors that Russia supplied arms to Hamas via Syria, a move very much similar to that of Israel in Ukraine.

Also, in November, Wall Street Journal reported that Russian private army Wagner Group, planned to send air defenses to Lebanon’s Hezbollah, an archenemy of Israel on the northern fronts.

The arms include SA-22 Pantsir mobile, shorty-range intercepor that very well suits Hezbollah defense environment.

Russian support to the Palestinians fall under a broader alliance with Iran, the main backer of anti-imperialist groups across the region.
