Alwaght- A Ukrainian drone struck near a nuclear power plant in the Russian town of Kurchatov near Kursk in the west of the country, said the city governor.
The attack was said to have caused as “minor damage” to a non-residential building, with no one hurt in the incident, according to RT.
However, the governor said the crash of the second UAV has not been confirmed. A single UAV was mistakenly counted twice as it was flying above the city, he explained.
The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant administration said on Telegram that the drone attack in Kurchatov did not affect operations. The facility is working as usual, with background radiation around the plant remaining within natural levels, it said.
The city of Kurchatov is located in Kursk Region, which shares a border with Ukraine. It was founded in the late 1960s and named after physicist Sergey Kurchatov, known as the father of the Soviet atomic bomb. The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is located around 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) from Kurchatov.
The Russian border regions, as well as the capital Moscow, have been targeted frequently by the Ukrainian unmanned aircraft since the military campaign Moscow lsukcjed earlier 2022.
On Wednesday, Russia accused Ukraine of launching multiple attacks on Moscow using drones. The attacks of Wednesday set a new record of attacks on the Russian cities, topped by the capital.
The Russian infrastructure also came under attacks over the past year. The attacks targeted Crimea bridge, damaging part of it and taking it out of operation for a couple of days.
