Iran to Sign SCO Obligations Document Next Week: Russia

Alwaght- Iran's President Sayed Ibrahim Raisi has left Tehran to Uzbekistan capital Tashkent in an official visit for two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organizatio summit.

The visit is made at the official invitation of the Uzbekistani President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Raisi is expected to have a bilateral with Mirziyoyev, as well as other leaders, including Vladimir Putin of Russia.

The Iranian president is accompanied by a high-ranking political and economic delegation.

The two sides are expected to discuss expansion of trade ties and sign about 18 cooperation documents and MoUs.

"Iran-Uzbekistan relations are good relations, this amount of relations in trade exchanges is not enough. Now the trade exchange volume of the two countries is $500 million, which has reached the highest level in the last three decades," he said prior to his flight to Tashkent.

Another part of his visit agenda is addressing the SCO meeting in which leaders of emerging economic powers like China and India are set to take part.

In September 2021 Iran was approved a full member into the economic bloc, finishing its years-long observer status.

The membership in the SCO will help the country beat the Western sanctions.

Tehran is expected to sign SCO obligations document during Raisi's trip.

"The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a piece of the Islamic Republic's major strategy puzzle in the field of economic diplomacy," said Zohreh Elahyan, a member of the Iran parliament's National Security Commitee. "The membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is very important and gratifying news, which indicates that one of the main priorities of Raisi's administrative is economy and economic diplomacy," she went on.

Iran is a major trade partner of many of the member states.

Tehran, along with Russia that has come under heavy Western sanctions for Ukraine war, says the bloc can help build a new economic order where the US dollar has no dominance and thus the American sanctions are ineffective.
