Britain Supports, Arms Saudi Regime in War on Yemen

Britain Supports, Arms Saudi Regime in War on Yemen
Alwaght- Britain has confessed it is supporting and arming Saudi Arabia in its ongoing aggression against neighboring Yemen.
RT quoted spokesperson of the Britain's Ministry of Defence of said as saying the UK’s assistance to Saudi Arabia includes providing “precision guided weapons,” but added the British government had been assured they will be used in compliance with international law.
Anti-arms trade campaigners condemned Britain’s support for the Persian Gulf regime, claiming the UK cares more about arms sales than human rights and democracy.
Being asked if British weapons are being used in Saudi airstrikes on Yemen and if the UK is providing assistance to the Saudi-led coalition, MoD spokesperson replied: “The UK is not participating directly in Saudi military operations. We are providing support to the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces and as part of pre-existing arrangements are providing precision guided weapons to assist the Saudi Air Force".
Early on June, Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT) called on the UK to stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia, as the regime continues its brutal war on its neighboring Yemen killing and injuring tens of thousands of civilian, mostly children and women.
Describing human rights situation in Saudi Arabia as 'dire', Anti-arms trade activist, Andrew Smith, told "The fact that it [Saudi regime] is also the world’s largest buyer of UK weapons is a sign of the real hypocrisy at the heart of UK foreign policy”.
"What right does the UK have to talk about human rights and democracy when its ministers are directly promoting arms sales to a regime that tortures bloggers?" he added.
Andrew Smith of (CAATsaid: “The Saudi bombing has created a humanitarian catastrophe and now we know the UK weapons have contributed to it.”
“These weapons have not just given military support to the bombardment; they have also provided a strong political support and underlined the closeness between the UK and Saudi governments.”
“With the destruction of Yemen and the intensifying crackdown on dissent in Saudi Arabia, the UK government is sending the message that human rights and democracy are less important than arms sales,” he added.
Based on UN reports, that is obviously underestimated, Saudi-led aggression on Yemen has claimed lives of 2,288, mostly women and childeren. Another 11000 are reported to have been wounded.
