Alwaght- A fierce media campaign is being held against Syrian people. A coordinated and programmed wave of rumors was launched weeks ago talking about the initiation of the 'Great Battle of Damascus', and the preparations of the so-called "The Conquest Army" to fight in Aleppo, and the near fall of the Syrian coast. The anti-Syrian media have commenced announcing specific dates for the eventual and near collapse' of the Syrian government as an aftermath of the Saudi-Turkish-Qatari entente. This entente aimed to alter the facts of the Syrian field to play down consequences of potential nuclear agreement between Iran and P5+1 that they assume will tip the balance of the power in the region.
The series of rumors did not end here. News has been spread claiming that there are internal coup attempts to topple the Syrian government and the head of the National Security Office, Major General Ali Mamlouk is fighting for his life in Al-Shami Hospital in Damascus. The rumors also claimed that Mamlouk is under house arrest after the Syrian government was informed that he is in tauch with the Turkish intelligence service. This was later revealed to be false, as Mamlouk appeared in the media during a meeting of the Syrian President, Bashar Al-Assad, with the Iranian Head of the National Security Council, Alaeddin Boroujerdi.
After Saudi aggression against Yemen, the psychological war against the Syrian people has escalated saying that such a campaign will be launched against Syria as well. At the same time it was rumored the Syria's division is imminent and the US and Russia have agreed upon it as each party tries to get the larger share. Furthermore, there are talks that the Syrian central government is moved from Damascus to Tartous.
This is not the first time that Syria has been subjected to such wave of psychological war. In 2012, it has witnessed more fierce and rigorous one, particularly after the death of the four generals in Damascus, the US statements of the "Great Battle of Damascus", and the near fall of the Syrian capital. The inimical media has repeatedly spoken of the near fall of the Syrian government saying that President AL-Assad is living in a ship in the middle of the sea waiting to sail towards Russia.
Rumor war was coincided with the announcement of initiating the 'North Battle' in Idlb and Jisr Al-Shaghour, the retreat of the Syrian army due to the major support provided by the Turkish government to the terrorist groups. Turkey became a strategic area for the terrorist groups. It has transferred a lot of modern military machines, weapons and armored vehicles into the Syrian territories across its ports, particularly to al-Nusra Front – al-Qaeda affiliated geoup in the Levant. The anti-armory "TOW" missiles – provided by Turkey to Nusra Front – had the most prominent role in the terrorists' recent progress toward the city of Idlb and its suburbs.
According to General reports of İsmail Hakkı Pekin, Deputy Chairman of the Patriotic Party (Turkey) and Former Head of the Intelligence of the General Staff, Turkey has transferred 12,000 Takfiri militants to the "North Battle".
The Turkish former military intelligence official said "Fake import and export companies have been established to finance Takfiri groups in Turkey. Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf Arab states give money to terrorist groups `through these fake companies. These fake organizations recruit militants for al-Nusra Front and ISIS paying 1000 to $ 1200 to each fighter".
Pekin added that "When received $ 1,200 terrorists easily enter to Syria through the Hatay borderand after arriving in Syria and buying weapons from smugglers, they give the rest of the money, which is about 800 to $900, to the commander of the terrorist group who has already been introduced. This way, large amount of money are transferred to these commanders monthly."
However, experts familiar with the Syrian affairs downplay the importance of the of the Syrian army's retreat knowing that Syrian army has retreated from Al Raqqa, Al-Qalamoun, Homs, and Al-Qseir, but gained these areas after awhile. Progress and retreat within the battle field is a normal process. Syrian Army and the Lebanese Resistance in AL-Qalamoun battle have achived remarkable victories as the Syrian army, along with its allies, is mobilizing large forces to recapture the city of Idlb located in Sahl Al-Ghab, on the outskirts of Qaryat Jourin province.
On the other hand, the Syrian governments still holds control over the country's political and military arenas. The Syrian army is united and the state agencies are working with all their power. These are signs of the Syrian government's cohesion and strength.
It seems that in the upcoming days we will witness new changes in the war-torn country's situation. It is estimated that Turkey will not be able to continue its support for al-Qaeda terrorists because they know sponsoring terrorism to destroy Syria will backfire on its allies eventually.
Regarding the failure of Saudi-led war on Yemen, dubbed "Decisive Storm", to achieve any of its goals, one may conclude that the potential Turkish-Saudi-Qatari coalition against Syria will also lead to nowhere.
On the other hand, Iran will not stand aside taking no action and will support its ally as always. "AlRaa'y AlYawm" website cited Iranian diplomatic sources as saying "Turkey has neglected all the undeclared agreements with Iran in regard to regulate the military operations in the North. As a result, Iran will never abide to what the neighboring country has abandoned."
Regarding the fact that various military options over the past four years has failed to topple the Syrian government, one may conclude that the Syrian crisis can be solved only through political option. Geneva conference III might prove this implication.
