Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, welcomed on Monday the consensus government’s decision to hold its next weekly meeting in Gaza.

Alwaght- Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, welcomed on Monday the consensus government’s decision to hold its next weekly meeting in Gaza.

The Hamas spokesman, Abdullatif al-Qanoa, stressed the importance of cancelling the Palestinian Authority’s punitive measures pursued against the blockaded coastal enclave.

The Palestinian consensus government announced it will hold its weekly meeting next Monday in Gaza Strip, spokesman for the government Youssef Mahmoud revealed.

The decision was taken after consultations between Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and President Mahmoud Abbas, he pointed out.

Hamdallah is to arrive in Gaza next Monday along with his government’s ministers to take office in the Strip, he affirmed.

The consensus government is making all possible efforts to achieve the Palestinian people’s will and to carry out its national duties mainly ending the internal division and restoring the national unity, according to the official.

Last week, Hamas Movement announced the dissolution of the administrative committee in Gaza and invited the consensus government to assume its responsibilities and hold general elections.

The Palestinian Prime Minister has also declared in a Facebook post that he will visit Gaza next Monday accompanied with all the government bodies and security services.

Earlier last week, Hamas Movement announced the dissolution of the administrative committee in Gaza and invited the consensus government to assume its responsibilities and hold general elections.

Hamas has been running the Gaza Strip since 2006 when it scored a landslide victory in Palestinian parliamentary elections, leaving The Palestinian Authority, controlled by Fatah and based in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, in control only of the autonomous areas of the West Bank.

Following the Hamas victory, the Israeli regime has imposed an all-out siege on Gaza making the coastal enclave uninhabitable. Israel has also launched several wars on the Palestinian coastal sliver, the last of which began in early July 2014.
