Israeli Forces Kidnap Palestinian Female MP Khalida Jarrar

Israeli Forces Kidnap Palestinian Female MP Khalida Jarrar

Alwaght- Israeli regime forces have kidnapped a female Palestinian Member of Parliament Khalida Jarrar, sparking outrage among Palestinian politicians.

Jarrar was abducted by Israeli regime forces from her home in Ramallah during a predawn military raid on Sunday. She was among 12 Palestinians kidnapped by Israeli regime forces during raids across the West Bank districts, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement.

PPS said Israeli forces detained six Palestinians, most of whom are from al-Aroob refugee camp, in Hebron.

Three Palestinians, including Palestinian Legislative Council Member, Khalida Jarrar, activist Khitam al-Sa’afeen, head of Palestinian woman committee and a former prisoner who spent 16 years in notorious Israeli detention centers were detained in the Ramallah area.

Two other Palestinians were detained in the southern West Bank district of Beit Lahm, in addition to a man in Jenin.

Head of the Palestinian Committee of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Qaraqe condemned the Israeli regime for abducting Jarrar, a member of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) faction who also heads the Prisoners' Commission of the PLC, and is vice-chairperson of the board of directors of Palestinian prisoners' rights group Addameer.

Qaraqe said Jarrar's abduction, which comes just over a year after she was released from Israeli custody, represented “a violation of international laws and of immunity given to elected Parliament members.”

According to Qaraqe, Israeli forces have detained around 70 deputies since 2002, equal to about half of the total number of PLC members. He highlighted the targeting of female parliamentarians over the years, who have also included Majida Fida and Samira Halaika.

Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi released a statement, in which she also deplored the detention of the chairwoman of the Union of Palestinian Women's Committees Khitam Saafin in Beituniya on the same night Jarrar was detained.

According to statistics issued by Prisoners Support and Human Rights Association, there are currently over 6200 Palestinian political prisoners incarcerated at notorious Israeli prisons, including 12 Legislative Council members.
