ALWAGHT- The Iranian ambassador to the UN criticized the US president's acknowledgment of knowing how and when Israel plans to attack Iran, cautioning that Washington will be held accountable for its role in provoking, inciting, and facilitating any Israeli aggression against Iran.
In a letter dated October 21, addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN Security Council President Pascale Christine Baeriswyl, Iranian envoy Saeed Iravani expressed Iran's concerns regarding potential US support for Israeli military actions against Iran. He highlighted a statement made by the US President on October 18, revealing knowledge of Israel's plans to attack Iran, which Iravani deemed inflammatory and indicative of US approval of Israeli aggression.
Iravani emphasized that such remarks contradict US claims of promoting de-escalation in the region and called for accountability for anyone aiding Israeli attacks. He referenced the Iranian Foreign Minister's statement, which asserted that those with knowledge of an impending Israeli strike should be held responsible for any casualties that result.
The letter further accused the US of complicity in Israeli aggression by providing military support and advanced weaponry, which he argued emboldens Israel's actions against Iran. Iravani stated that the US shares responsibility for instigating violence and violating international law, specifically citing the prohibition of the use of force under the UN Charter.
Lastly, Iran urged the Security Council to condemn the US provocation and call on Washington to fulfill its obligations under international law. The letter also demanded that the US leverage its influence to stop Israeli war crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza and Lebanon, warning that such actions threaten both regional stability and international peace.
