ALWAGHT- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will travel to Tehran soon for discussions on mutual, regional, and global issues, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is set to visit Tehran as part of ongoing consultations between Iran and Russia on bilateral ties and regional and international developments. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, Lavrov will meet with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, and other officials. Iran's Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, confirmed that Lavrov’s day-long visit is scheduled for Tuesday, with discussions covering a wide range of mutual, regional, and global issues.
Lavrov's last visit to Iran took place in October 2023 for a meeting under the 3+3 cooperation format, which includes Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, and Iran. The two nations have maintained strong ties, deepening their relationship despite Western sanctions. Their cooperation spans multiple sectors, including political, economic, and defense collaborations, reinforcing their strategic alliance.
Iran and Russia have formalized their partnership through various agreements, starting with the 2001 Treaty of the Foundation of Mutual Relations and the Principles of Cooperation, which has been extended until 2026. In January 2024, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, marking a significant step in strengthening long-term cooperation. Both leaders praised the deal as a milestone in their countries' relations.
