ALWAGHT- Hamas and Islamic Jihad have strongly condemned a raid by Israeli special prison units on a section of Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah in the West Bank. They denounced the assault on Palestinian detainees as a criminal act that highlights the Tel Aviv regime’s terrorist nature.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad have condemned Israel's recent raid on Palestinian prisoners at Ofer Prison, describing it as part of Israel's ongoing brutality. Hamas accused the Israeli regime of attempting to restore its lost prestige through such acts and called for greater exposure of Israel’s crimes against Palestinian detainees. Islamic Jihad similarly criticized the raid, calling it a clear reflection of Israel’s aggressive and inhumane nature. Both movements highlighted that the Israeli regime’s actions demonstrate moral decline and an ongoing crisis.
The Gaza-based Prisoners’ Media Office reported that during the raid, Palestinian prisoners were beaten and sprayed with gas. No immediate details were provided on the extent of injuries, but the attack was seen as an attempt to undermine the resilience of Palestinian detainees. In addition to this, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs revealed harsh conditions faced by female detainees at Damon Prison, including forced stays in cold cells with insufficient clothing, frequent transfers between cells, and physical abuse, such as shackling and blindfolding.
Human rights organizations continue to report systematic mistreatment of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, particularly those from Gaza. Many prisoners suffer from chronic health issues, with some dying in custody or shortly after release due to poor medical care. These violations, including torture, harassment, and poor hygiene, are seen as direct breaches of international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention. Palestinian prisoners have regularly resorted to hunger strikes in protest of their detention and the appalling conditions they face.
