ALWAGHT- Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for Iran’s Judiciary, has announced that two British nationals detained in Iran face espionage charges.
On Tuesday, Jahangir stated that British nationals Craig and Lindsay Foreman entered Iran under the pretense of tourism and gathered information across multiple provinces while claiming to conduct research.
He further alleged that the two, identified by British media as a married couple, were collaborating with hostile foreign intelligence agencies.
According to the spokesperson, the IRGC Intelligence Organization had been monitoring the couple before their arrest in January in the southern city of Kerman.
Ebrahim Hamidi, the chief justice of Kerman Province, also confirmed on Tuesday that an investigation was underway into the couple’s alleged connections to foreign intelligence services.
Last week, British Ambassador to Iran Hugo Shorter met with the detainees in Kerman, following a request he had made for the meeting.
