Alwaght- The Syrian army discovered Friday a mass grave containing bodies of military personnel and civilians who were executed by ISIS terrorist group in the western countryside of Raqqa province.
Syrian army says that a number of locals who returned to their villages in Raqqa province provided information about a mass grave near al-Ramthan area in western countryside of the city, and army forces headed to the site and started search process to find the suspected grave.
A civil defense official said that the bodies of 34 victims have been pulled out of the mass grave and transported to the Military Hospital in Aleppo for identification and other legal procedures.
Syrian Forensic Medicine General Director Zaher Hajo told Arabic-language al-Watan daily in early January that ISIS terrorists had executed 10,000 people and buried their bodies in mass graves across Raqqa.
He stressed that his colleagues had found some 4,000 bodies only in a single grave.
Syrian forces are engaged in intensive operations to wipe out remnants of terrorists in many parts of the country after a successful offensive to retake all territories previously occupied by ISIS terrorist group in the country. Syria has been gripped by a foreign-backed insurgency since 2011 which has led to the killing of hundreds of thousands of civilians and displacing of millions.
