ALWAGHT- Citing US influence over Beirut, the deputy chairman of Hezbollah's political council stated that blocking Iranian planes from landing at Beirut airport is an insult to Lebanon.
Mahmoud Qamati, deputy chairman of Hezbollah's political council in Lebanon, condemned US influence over the country during a public rally on Imam Khomeini Road in Beirut. He declared that Hezbollah would not tolerate American occupation, warning that their patience had limits. He further criticized what he described as Washington’s control over Lebanon, rejecting any dominance by the US and Israel.
Qamati specifically denounced Beirut’s decision to block Iranian planes from landing at its airport, calling it an insult to Lebanon and clear evidence of American-imposed policies. He emphasized that Iran is a friendly nation and that Hezbollah would not accept foreign dictates. Protesters at the rally echoed similar sentiments, condemning what they saw as attempts by the US and Israel to dominate Lebanon. However, the demonstration was met with resistance from Lebanese security forces, who reportedly used teargas to disperse the crowd.
The cancellation of Iranian flights came under Israeli pressure, despite international aviation laws protecting civilian airports from military threats. In response, Iran strongly criticized the Lebanese government's decision, reaffirming its commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty. Iranian officials stressed that Tehran remains a reliable ally, providing Lebanon with support in areas such as energy and reconstruction while respecting its independence.
