Alwaght- Iran has deployed long range air defense S300 missiles to defend Fordo nuclear site, National Television reported.
“Defending nuclear sites is of outmost importance and will not be neglected in any circumstances” General Farzad Esmaili, the commander of Iran's air defenses to the national TV.
“Iran has one of the most secure skies in the region” he added.
The report showed a S300 launching truck in a maneuvering position with missiles pointing the skies of Fordo nuclear site in central Iran. Other air defense systems including anti-air artillery and Hug missile system was also shown in the report.
The deployment of Russian made system comes hours after Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei cautioned the adversaries that Iran’s reaction to any assault will not be confined to defense alone, but aggressors will have to face a crushing response.
“The enemy should realize that it will receive a heavy blow in case of launching an attack and that our defense will entail response as well,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a gathering of Iranian Air Defense commanders in Tehran on Sunday.
“The S-300 system is a defensive and not offensive tool but the Americans have made their utmost efforts to prevent the Islamic Republic's use of this possibility. We are facing such an enemy which doesn’t respect our nation's right of defense and actually wants us to remain defenseless so that they can launch aggression against our country whenever they want,” the supreme Leader added.
S300 Defense System is a state of the art system providing protection against both warplanes and missiles.
The contract to buy the system was concluded in 2007 between Iran and Russia but Moscow froze the deal in 2010 due to UN sanctions. Putin lifted the suspension in July 2015 after Iranian nuclear deal. The first shipment arrived in Iran in April.
