Iranian MP Reiterates Tehran’s Support for Lebanese Army

Borojourdi is on a two-day visit to Lebanon.

Iran’s Boroujerdi has met with Lebanese officials as part of a two-day visit to Lebanon coinciding with Army Day.

Alwaght- Chairman of Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi is continuing an official two-day visit to Lebanon after meeting with top officials.

Boroujerdi has reiterated Iran’s non-interference policy when it comes to Lebanon’s internal affairs.

Following talks with Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil, Broujerdi added that Tehran is willing to give a helping hand in resolving Lebanon’s presidential crisis upon request.

“However, in light of the ties of friendship, brotherhood and fraternity that link us to brotherly Lebanon, we would play a part, if asked, in any political efforts aimed at resolving this political vacuum in Lebanon,” he stated.

Broujerdi also carried a message from Tehran that it is ready to offer the Lebanese Army military aid to defend the country which continuously faces external and internal threats.

“We in Iran, through our desire to bolster all that strengthens Lebanese sovereignty, are always willing to support the Lebanese Army with arms and equipment that will enable it to defend Lebanon’s security and stability.”

He also met with Hezbollah MPs to affirm the Islamic Republic’s support for the resistance.

After these talks he hailed the “historic and unique role of the resistance under the leadership of [Hezbollah’s] Secretary-General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, which provided security and stability not only in Lebanon… but also the region.”

Following a meeting with Prime Minister Tamman Salam

Broujerdi reiterated Iranian support for national dialogue among Lebanese factions that resumed on Tuesday.

“As you know the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly supports domestic national unity in Lebanon and everything that aims to maintain security, calm and stability in this country,” he said.
