Independent States Need to Cooperate to Confront Superpowers: Iran’s Leader

Alwaght- The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called for closer cooperation among independent countries to effectively confront interference by global superpowers.

The Leader made the remarks on Tuesday in Tehran when he received visiting Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang in Tehran.

Pointing to the effort of global superpowers to interfere in the affairs of other countries, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said: "Sometimes, these interferences are carried out through waging wars such as the Vietnam War and sometimes, they are carried out in other ways. The only way to confront these interferences is that independent countries cooperate with and get close to one another."

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that cooperation with Asian countries - including Vietnam - is the fixed policy of the Islamic Republic: "We are aware of your cooperation in international communities and we believe that we should increase our cooperation within the scope of resources and capacities."

The Leader referred to various economic, technical, financial and cultural areas in developing the relations between the two countries, reiterating: "The courage and resistance of the people of Vietnam and of outstanding personalities like Ho Chi Minh and General Giap against the transgression of foreigners has caused your people to be honorable and credible in the eyes of the people of Iran and this respect and sympathy are very good grounds for increasing cooperation."

Thanking The Leader of the Islamic Revolution for his praise of the revolutionary activities of the people of Vietnam and of Vietnamese leaders against foreigners, Truong Tan Sang said: "The people of Vietnam resisted foreign invasions for tens of years until they managed to achieve independence and freedom."

The President of Vietnam also thanked the Islamic Republic for its support of Vietnam in international affairs, stressing: "Vietnam has also supported Iran in international affairs. It considers the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy as Iran's definite right and in the future too, it will support Iran's positions."

He highlighted the necessity of increasing cooperation between Iran and Vietnam in all areas, adding: "We hope that as before, Iran will look at Vietnam as its key partner within the framework of its orientation towards the east."
