Lavrov: Iran Has the Right to Enrich Uranium for Peaceful Purposes

ALWAGHT- The Russian Foreign Minister backed Iran's right to enrich uranium, stating that Moscow supports any US-Iran agreement to end the war.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow will support any solution to end the war that both the US and Iran are willing to accept. He noted that Russia has received no serious proposals regarding ending the conflict and does not intend to interfere, wishing the negotiation process success. Lavrov also remarked that the Palestinian issue has been overshadowed by the situation in the Persian Gulf and around Iran.

Lavrov emphasized that Iran, as an NPT member, has the full right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes without additional requirements. The first round of direct talks between Tehran and Washington on April 12 failed to yield results, with US demands on Iran's nuclear program being a key obstacle. Iran's proposals have focused on ending the war and US confidence-building measures, preferring to address nuclear issues after the conflict ends.

Lavrov stated that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant concerns only Russia and Iran, as it has never been subject to sanctions and was exempted from the JCPOA. He confirmed that the plant's modernization and additional power units are under construction. Regarding Ukraine, Lavrov blamed European radicals, neo-liberals, neo-Nazis, and Zelensky's regime for blocking peace plans drafted by the US, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that America will not spend further time on Ukraine negotiations if no progress is observed.
