Iran Rejects PGCC Allegations, Calls on Member States to Pay for Role in Aggression

ALWAGHT- Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson dismissed the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General's claims about Tehran's conduct during the US-Israeli war, stressing Iran's dedication to good neighborly relations and respect for neighbors' sovereignty.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has accused certain member states of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) of violating international law by participating in the US-Israeli military aggression against Iran. He noted that despite being aware of their legal obligation to prevent aggressors from using their territory and facilities to attack Iran, these governments not only failed to act but some actively joined the assault. Citing UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, Baghaei stated that such actions constitute acts of aggression, making these governments complicit alongside the US and Israel in committing grave crimes against the Iranian people. He also rejected claims made in the PGCC Secretary-General's press statement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that Iran, as a coastal state, has implemented practical and proportionate measures to defend itself while ensuring safe passage, all fully consistent with international law.

On the issue of confidence-building among regional countries, Baghaei asserted that Iran has always been a pioneer in fostering trust and has called on all parties to avoid divisive behavior. However, he stressed that trust-building is a two-way street, and PGCC member states must take necessary steps to earn Iran's trust. This requires, first and foremost, compensating for the damage inflicted on the Iranian people due to their participation in the US-Israeli aggression, as well as refraining from any further cooperation or complicity with Iran's enemies.
