ALWAGHT- A Russian tanker transporting vegetable oil came under attack in the Black Sea, with Turkey confirming the ship and crew are safe.
A Russian-flagged tanker carrying vegetable oil was attacked in the Black Sea while traveling from Russia to Georgia, Turkish authorities confirmed. The vessel reported the incident about 80 nautical miles from Türkiye’s coast, but no help was requested, and all crew members were safe as the ship continued toward the port of Sinop.
Following the incident, Türkiye issued a strong warning to Ukraine, with a senior Turkish source saying Ankara delivered a “very clear response” regarding alleged involvement of Ukrainian security services in Black Sea shipping attacks. However, no details were disclosed about the content of the warning.
The attack comes amid escalating maritime tensions in the region, as Ukraine recently confirmed drone strikes on two tankers it described as part of Russia’s “shadow fleet” used to bypass oil sanctions. Both vessels were reportedly left inoperable, reflecting intensifying efforts to disrupt Russia’s oil transport network in the Black Sea.
