ALWAGHT- Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran remains dedicated to diplomacy even as Washington undermines indirect talks, warning that US policies are driving international relations toward a “law of the jungle” model based on force.
In an interview after a mediation-focused meeting in Muscat, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran remains committed to diplomacy and is open to a fair agreement if the United States shows genuine willingness to negotiate. He stressed that Iran has never abandoned talks and sees diplomacy as a core principle of its foreign policy.
Araghchi said five rounds of Omani-mediated indirect negotiations had brought both sides close to an agreement before the process collapsed. He blamed Washington for rejecting proposed solutions and insisting on “zero enrichment,” a condition Iran considers unacceptable, arguing that non-proliferation is possible without eliminating peaceful enrichment.
He warned that US reliance on force is pushing global relations toward a “law of the jungle,” undermining international law and diplomacy. Araghchi said Israeli attacks on Iran during negotiations, with direct US involvement, were an assault not only on Iran but also on diplomatic efforts and Oman’s mediating role.
Addressing regional issues, Araghchi said Iran emerged stronger from the recent war with Israel, reaffirmed support for resistance groups, rejected any dialogue with Israel, and accused it of occupying Palestinian land. He also warned of Israeli expansion in Syria, expressed cautious optimism about improving ties with Saudi Arabia, and emphasized that the Persian Gulf security should be shaped by regional states without foreign intervention.
