ALWAGHT- According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, an Israeli airstrike in the country’s south has left at least one person dead, in what constitutes the most recent violation of the ceasefire accord signed between Tel Aviv and Lebanon in November.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported a series of Israeli drone strikes in southern Lebanon over the weekend. The attacks included a strike on a motorcycle in al-Qlailah, Tyre district, and another on an excavator in Blida, Marjayoun district. Earlier, a drone strike targeted a car near a school on the Harouf-Jibchit road in Nabatieh, killing one person and injuring another.
The victim was identified as Zein Futouni, whom the Israeli military described as an anti-tank commander with Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force. Israel claimed Futouni was involved in rebuilding Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in southern Lebanon. The strikes mark a continuation of hostilities despite the ceasefire that took effect on November 27, 2024, following more than a year of conflict.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli forces have continued to launch airstrikes across southern Lebanon. Beirut extended the truce until February 18, yet tensions remain high as Israel continues to occupy five key areas near the border — Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill — in violation of the agreement.
